Remote Antennas for Drones (UAV)

COBRA remote active antennas are designed to maintain a stable link with a UAV at long range. A directional pattern and high gain concentrate the radiation towards the aircraft, while mounting the antenna on a mast places it away from the operator’s position and improves the conditions for radio propagation.

The COBRA line includes single-band 2.4 GHz models and dual-band 2.4 / 5.8 GHz models. The model is selected according to the control system’s operating frequencies, the required range and the operating conditions.

The system can be supplied with a coaxial cable of the required length, a HYDRA kit for connecting to the controller, and an antenna rotator.

Single-band models — COBRA L-V 24 and COBRA XL-V 24. They operate in the 2.4 GHz band and can be used with UAVs on that frequency, including the Vampire, as well as other UAVs with a HereLink control system.

Dual-band models — COBRA L and COBRA S. They operate in the 2.4 / 5.8 GHz bands and suit UAVs whose control systems use both frequency bands, including DJI Mavic, DJI Matrice and Autel.

Do I need a rotator to work with a remote directional antenna?

Not always. If the UAV follows a predetermined heading and stays within the antenna’s working sector, the antenna can be used without a rotator. If the aircraft changes direction in flight or deviates significantly from the initial azimuth, it may leave the main beam, which reduces signal level and link stability. In such cases an antenna rotator is used — a turning mechanism that points the antenna towards the UAV and keeps the link stable as the flight path changes.

What are the advantages of a narrow antenna beam?

A narrow beam concentrates the antenna’s radiation in a chosen direction. Thanks to high gain — up to 22.7 dBi depending on the model — the energy is focused within the working sector instead of being spread across a wide range of directions. This helps maintain a more stable link at long range and can reduce the influence of signals arriving from other directions. At the same time, a narrow beam requires more precise pointing towards the UAV, especially as its azimuth changes.

How many cables does a COBRA remote antenna need?

One. Every COBRA system runs through a single coaxial cable, including the dual-band 2.4 / 5.8 GHz models. Working on two frequency bands does not require two separate cables. This simplifies connection, shortens deployment time and reduces the number of cable joints in the system.

How is a COBRA remote antenna connected to the controller?

A COBRA remote antenna connects by coaxial cable to the antenna output of the controller. Depending on the connectors available, this can be done directly or through suitable adapters. As an option we offer HYDRA — a modified controller cover with N-Type connectors fitted, which lets the coaxial cable be attached directly, without external pigtails or extra adapter joints. This simplifies the connection and reduces additional losses in the RF path. Versions are available for DJI RC Pro and HereLink.

What cable length should I choose for a remote antenna?

The length of the coaxial cable is chosen according to the antenna model and how far it needs to be placed from the operator. For single-band 2.4 GHz models we recommend 20–30 m, for dual-band 2.4 / 5.8 GHz — 20 m. Other lengths are possible on request, but bear in mind that losses grow with length, especially at higher frequencies.

What power supply does a COBRA remote antenna need?

The system can be powered from a 12 V source or from 220 V mains. The kit includes the matching cables: to a 12 V vehicle socket (cigarette lighter) or through an AC 220 V / DC 12 V power supply. There is no built-in battery. For autonomous operation an external source can be used — a portable power station or a vehicle, for example.

Do you provide service and support?

Yes. In case of a fault or damage, contact us for diagnostics. Based on the results we determine the cause and whether and how the equipment can be restored. We support COBRA systems throughout their service life.

What are the lead and shipping times for COBRA systems?

Systems held in stock are shipped within 1–2 working days of the order being placed. For larger volumes, or when the required quantity is not in stock, the lead time depends on the order size and is agreed individually.
